Supporting the well-being of Burlington’s diverse and growing community of Seniors

The Burlington Seniors Community (formerly, The Burlington Seniors Centre Inc.) has some exciting news and volunteer opportunities to share with the residents of Burlington.

The past few months the Board of Directors have been busy investigating ideas and sharing suggestions on the refinement of the parameters and objectives for their Standing and Ad-hock Committees.

At the same time, the Governance Committee, headed by Brian Heagle and made up of 4 board members, 7 community members at large and Marianne Meed-Ward have been continuing the upgrading of the Vision and Mission Statements that had begun a year ago and will be presenting them at the next Board Meeting.

Since the City made the decision 3 months ago to sever all ties, including not allowing BSCI Board Members to volunteer or have meetings/activities at the Centre except by paid Permits, BSCI are now more able to fulfill their previously stated mandate of “Supporting the well-being of Burlington’s diverse and growing community of seniors”.

In order to see how this can be accomplished and what is needed, we will be holding a Public Seniors’ Forum, open to all Seniors 55+. In this manner, thoughts and concerns of how Burlington could better serve its Seniors, can be gathered from the Seniors themselves. Become involved in the changes to assist seniors, some who could use a little help, in making their lives more fulfilling.

In the next 10 years, Burlington’s senior age demographic is predicted to increase dramatically; therefore the Board is forming Mobility, Socialization and Isolated Seniors Sub-Committees and are looking for volunteers to help discern what needs to happen.

Consider what your needs might be in 10 years and help us to get Burlington ready!
